I served with the Toronto Scottish Regiment in 1974-75, which has been a Militia regiment since the 1st World War, as a follow-on to the 75th nfanrty Battalion. During WW2, it was deployed as a heavy machne gun support battalion, with units of the Regiment attached to other infantry regiments to provide additional fire power as needed. While each infantry regiment had its own compliment of support weapons (machine guns, morters, anti-tank weapons), particular engagements required incremental resources and these were assigned temporarily from the associated support battalions.
